EXECUTIVE BOARD

Adam Falkowski

Professional Advisor

I grew up in West Michigan in the Muskegon area and enjoy returning to the area for time on the lakes and beaches.  I am an alum of Michigan State University College of Engineering and graduated in 2001 with a BSCE.  I started working full time at C2AE (then Capital Consultants Engineers) while I was still in school at MSU and will have been with the organization for 20 years this fall.  In my time at C2AE, I have had the opportunity to play a number of different roles within the company which has given me a chance to be involved in many aspects of projects and operation of the business.  I have spent time in the field performing full-time construction observation and construction contract administration.  I have been involved in the design of transportation (both local and DOT) projects and infrastructure projects, and have experience as a project manager of studies, infrastructure, transportation, site, and building projects.  I have also performed roles in the company operation as a Project Manager, Client Advisor, a corporate Quality Control Manager, an Infrastructure Discipline Leader, an Advisor to the C2AE Board of Directors, and various supervisory roles with direct reports in multiple states.  I am currently serving in a Project Management/Client Relationship Manager role working with clients to develop and execute their projects and manage their assets.

Outside of C2AE and beyond my role with the ASCE Board, I also serve within my community through involvement in the Construction Board of Appeals and as the Chairman of the Sewer Board of Appeals to the Bath Charter Township Board.

At home, I enjoy spending time with my family.  My wife of 20 years, Deann Falkowski, is also a civil engineer in our industry and is involved within Michigan Water and Environment Association (MWEA). We have two wonderful children, Brendan (15 years old) and Cara (13 years old).  As a family, we enjoy traveling, sailing on Lake Michigan, camping, fishing, golfing, and music.  My wife has been teaching the kids piano, and the kids and I have been learning guitar together.

In my role as Professional Advisor to the Board, I work to bring opportunities for the Board and the ASCE Student Chapter to learn about the Civil Engineering Industry through my experience and relationships.  I am striving to help connect students with the Industry.

Civil Engineering

I am a junior who was born in raised in Grand Rapids Michigan. I attended Northview High School where I began to find interests in math and science. I knew I wanted to study engineering in high school but wasn’t sure how to match my like of math and science with my love to work outdoors. After a little bit of research about Civil Engineering, I had a feeling it would be a good fit for me.

I joined ASCE my freshman year and after being a member for 3 months I joined the e-board as event coordinator and was very pleased with my decision to get involved. After serving as event coordinator for a year and a half and working with three great presidents, I had the honor to elected president. Coming to a big university was hard as a freshman, but getting involved with ASCE was the best choice I made. I was able to meet some outstanding students also studying Civil Engineering, get help with scheduling my courses every semester, receive great advice for succeeding not only in school but post-graduation, was able to get help reaching out for internships and opportunities, and most importantly connecting directly with great engineers from many different companies.

I currently work as an engineering technician with SME here in Lansing which is a great place to start my career in the field. With plans to pursue a career in Construction Management, I am excited to see what this year brings for ASCE. I have many goals in mind for this growing organization and can’t wait to get started working with this great group of people!

I am a senior from Shelby Township, Michigan majoring in Civil Engineering with a minor in Real Estate Investment Management. During my high school years at Warren De La Salle Collegiate and my first two years of college at Michigan State, I pursued a number of strong interests in architecture, engineering, and real estate development. I am especially inspired by the fascinating history and exciting future of real estate developments and civil engineering works in the city of Detroit.

At the end of my sophomore year, I made the decision to major in civil engineering and became involved in ASCE at the beginning of the Fall 2018 semester. My involvement in ASCE has afforded me many opportunities to meet and connect with other students and professionals in civil engineering, learn more about the diverse range of industries and career pathways studying civil engineering has to offer, and continue building valuable leadership and communication skills through my responsibilities on the e-board. This past summer I worked as a Civil Engineering Intern with PEA in Troy Michigan, experiencing a civil engineer's work in the land development consulting industry.

Civil Engineering

Hello, my name is Carter Clarkson. I am from Clarkston Michigan and I am currently a sophomore studying Civil engineering. I joined the e-board committee of ASCE to contribute to an organization that provides students with amazing opportunities to explore their engineering interests. As a sophomore, I hope to develop myself as a leader and as a professional through my involvement with ASCE. On-campus, I am currently involved in Cru fellowship, the Orchesis dance company, and the ASCE concrete canoe club. I developed my interest in civil engineering at a young age while growing up in Bangkok, Thailand. There, I was immersed in an environment filled with both amazing construction and architecture, but also in one filled with great urban poverty and deteriorating infrastructure. I became fascinated with infrastructure and its impact on the lives of all people.

I am a senior from Rochester, MI studying civil engineering at MSU. I joined ASCE last year as a way to get more involved with CE and meet other people with similar interests, and now hold the position of social media chair. I chose to run for the social media chair because I often find out about events and clubs on campus through social media, and I think improving our social media presence will help us with that. I look forward to connecting with professionals and the opportunities ASCE has to offer to students!

Summer of 2018 I did an engineering study abroad in Paris, France. I was able to take engineering-related courses while developing cross-cultural competencies and exploring a new city!
This past summer I worked with Anderson, Eckstein, and Westrick, Inc. as an Engineering Intern. I completed a 3-part rotational program of civil engineering, surveying, and construction inspection. It was a great way to see the options a civil engineer has after graduation and I look forward to possibly working with them again next summer!

I am a junior from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I decided to major in Civil Engineering based on my love for mathematics and "LEGO". Since I was a kid, I have been fascinated by the different types of infrastructures from highways to bridges. Coming to Michigan State University was a huge decision for me as I was looking to begin my engineering journey.

I went to Paris, France in the summer of 2019 for a study abroad. I took several courses with a concentration in engineering and had the chance to travel around Europe!

I joined ASCE at the end of my sophomore year because I wanted to grow professionally and socially. So far, I had the opportunity to get more involved in the Civil Engineering industry and to connect with students and faculty staff.

I decided to go to Michigan State University from my hometown of Los Angeles California to further explore the great country we live in. I chose civil engineering because I have always had an interest in static structures and building infrastructure. I have a knack for surveying and construction and would like to learn more about those specific fields. ASCE is a great first step to doing just that. With many connections to other civil engineers, I can truly explore more about my major and potentially find the concentration that is right for me. I also have a twin brother who is 2 inches taller and 2 minutes older than me.

I’m a senior from Chicago, IL and became interested in engineering through some of my dad's projects at home. I joined ASCE to become more involved and meet more people interested in engineering. At Michigan State, I have been actively involved in my sorority, Sigma Delta Tau, and have volunteered for MSU greenhouses, St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in East Lansing, and WIE. This past summer I had the opportunity to study abroad in Rome and do some traveling in the UK as well.

I grew up in Canton, Michigan. I joined ASCE in September 2017 when I switched majors to Civil Engineering to get to know other people in my major and get connected with employers. Immediately, I wanted to get more involved, so I started attending e-board meetings and, before I knew it, became the Communications Chair. Two years later, I'm serving the e-board as Vice President, and I've gotten the opportunity to travel to Dallas, TX; volunteer at a local science museum in Lansing to teach children about STEM; and network with countless employers at our regular general meetings. I have interned with Aristeo Construction and Spalding DeDecker in the summers of 2018 and 2019. ASCE has been a valuable part of my experience here at MSU, which sadly comes to an end in May 2020 when I'll be graduating. Check out our upcoming meetings and, if interested, get involved! Go Green!

This summer, I will be joining Kimley-Horn as a Civil Engineer-In-Training in the Greater Chicagoland office.
